Care Worker of the Month – July 2022

Happy Friday everyone! The sun is shining and it is Care Worker of the Month winner announcement day!

As always, this was an exceptionally difficult decision as we received so many truly heart-warming entries. Thank you to everyone that submitted a nomination.

We are delighted to announce that this month’s winner is Mark Bailey – Community Carer for Caremark Thanet.

Mark was nominated by his wife – Liz – and we were all extremely moved by Liz’s story.

Please find this below:

Hi,

My name is Liz Bailey and email is the best way to contact me.

I would like to nominate Mark Bailey (yes he is my husband). We are both community carers for Caremark Thanet full-time and have been for about four years now.

Three years ago Mark was diagnosed with Parkinson’s on top of already having type 2 diabetes and arthritis. He then last year got diagnosed with epilepsy as well. Through all of this he has carried on working as a carer but is also training carers about Parkinson’s and diabetes, he goes out to see people in the community and chats to them about Parkinson’s and encourages them not to give up on life and what they can do as well as where they can get more help. These can be clients and their families or total strangers that have contacted Caremark asking to see Mark.

In May he walked 70 miles and raised over £1300 pounds for Parkinson’s. He has done radio interviews and been in local booklets like the Broadstairs Bulletin about both his work as a carer as well as about Parkinson’s. Mark is a friendly positive person that always says he will not let his Parkinson’s define who he is and he will help anyone he can. I have seen him go from never having done care to now taking every day in his stride no matter what a client needs whether it be a chat, to personal care, to a pint of milk from the shop down the road.

Thank you,

Liz Bailey

Thank you for all you do Mark – you are a truly worthy winner!

And if you entered in July but did not win, please feel free to enter again as many times as you wish.

Have a wonderful weekend!
